Frequently Asked Questions

The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other. I’ll ask questions about your background, important life experiences, family dynamics and the concerns that brought you to therapy. We’ll talk through timelines, patterns and what you’re hoping to gain from our work together. This session helps me understand the full picture so we can create a thoughtful plan moving forward. You’re always welcome to share at your own pace and there is no pressure to have all the answers.

Therapy can be beneficial to everyone! Therapy might be right for you if you’re noticing patterns you’d like to change, feeling emotionally overwhelmed or wanting deeper insight into yourself and your relationships. Reaching out doesn’t mean something is wrong, it means you’re ready to invest in your well being.

Yes, therapy is confidential. What you share in session is private and protected by law. This creates a safe space where you can speak openly and honestly. There are a few legal exceptions to confidentiality such as concerns about safety or abuse, which we will review together during your first session so you fully understand your rights and protections.
For children and teens, confidentiality helps create a safe space where they can speak openly and build trust. While parents are involved in the overall treatment process, I balance keeping caregivers informed with protecting your child’s privacy. I will share themes, progress, and any safety concerns, but specific details are typically kept confidential unless there is a risk of harm. We review these limits together at the start so everyone understands how communication and privacy will work.

The cost of therapy depends on your insurance coverage. I offer self-pay rates and can provide a superbill for clients who wish to seek out-of-network reimbursement. I accept insurance however, your out-of-pocket cost will vary based on your individual plan. While I can provide an estimate, the most accurate information about coverage comes directly from your insurance provider. I encourage you to contact your insurance company to better understand your specific benefits.

If you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment please provide at least 24 hours notice. Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours notice will have a cancellation fee. This policy helps ensure consistent scheduling and allows the opportunity to offer that time to another client.

Simply come as you are! Some clients find it helpful to reflect on what’s been on their mind, recent challenges or goals they’d like to focus on. Others prefer to process in the moment and that’s completely okay. Therapy is your space and we’ll move at a pace that feels comfortable and supportive for you.
